Getting to Halong Bay
There are a range of options for getting to Halong Bay. You can book our shuttle bus which departs from Hanoi between 8h00 - 8h30 am. The trip to Halong Bay takes approximately 3.5 hours and includes a stop midway for coffee and bathroom breaks. Our journey will take us overland through the Red River Delta and then East to Halong City. To ensure schedules are maintained, we kindly request that you please be on time for the bus.
Alternatively if you have your own car or have arranged private transport, you can arrange for us to meet you at our harbor cafe in Halong. We kindly request that you provide us with your driver’s contact number so that our staff can inform you in the event of any schedule changes.
If you have arranged your own transfer and fail to meet us at the boarding time, please contact us immediately so that we can assist you. Please be advised that in this event, you will be responsible for paying any additional costs involved
If you intend to arrive in Hanoi and join our cruise directly, please note that you must arrive before 9 am, otherwise it will not possible to do the trip.
Vietnamese government regulations require that all travelers must register with the local authorities. To avoid delays, please ensure that you bring your passport with you and provide your passport and visa information at the time of booking.
Unlike the tropical south, Northern Vietnam has four seasons. In the Summer, the temperature frequently exceeds 33 degrees and varies from a hot dry heat to humidity. In the Winter, the weather averages 15 degrees.
What should I bring?
Our trips offer some light physical activity such as walking, visiting caves, hiking and cycling so please ensure that you bring comfortable walking shoes with good grip. If you intend to go kayaking, bring a change of clothes as there is a strong possibility you will get wet. We suggest that you bring a small backpack to take on the day boat. If you are traveling in the summer, we recommend that you pack a hat and sunscreen to protect you from sunburn. In the winter, Halong Bay can get cold, so be sure to pack warmly. A raincoat will be useful any time of the year.
Wherever you travel in Vietnam, we advise that you bring mosquito repellent, baby wipes or hand sanitizer, aspirin/ paracetamol and tablets for stomach upsets such as Imodium. We also suggest that you bring any personal medications that you may require with you.
We strongly suggest that you pack an open-mind and a sense of humor. Vietnamese culture is dramatically different from most other cultures and things that are totally normal in Vietnam may be considered strange in other countries. Traffic in Vietnam is famously hectic and unexpected delays can occur. Bargaining is common practice and you will find that better results are achieved with a smile and a friendly attitude.
